I figure buying this on day one will make me unable to appreciate other games for awhile. About the time this hits bargain price other games will compete with it.

Unless Microsoft pulls out something absolutely incredible at E3, Sony will turn it around this year. Maybe not being top in sales, but they will have turned around public opinion.

Huxley lite? Huxley has non-combat cities that will hold thousands of players, but the battles themselves will be smaller (120 in Huxley, 256 in MAG).

Zipper said in a video on the playstation blog that MAG will be free to play after the purchase price.

http://blog.us.playstation....

There may be a possibility of the purchase price being higher than the standard $60, but I haven't seen anything about that beyond a pricing survey a while back, and i wouldn't expect it. I would predict Sony to cover server cos...

People did see it only affects PAL territories, right? Many of the XBox fans will still see a simultaneous release.

As far as why did Sony do this now? Who knows. Publishing contracts, like all business contracts, can be very complicated. Isn't the movie coming out on Blu-ray soon? Maybe Sony has some kind of tie-in with that in mind, and this was the best way to set that up (eg. maybe they are planning a movie + game package, but since the game has had trouble getting a pub...

look at all the Microsoft trolls attacking this after years of defending MS for it. How pathetic.

green, whether this "tactic" is fair or not, the article hugely overstates the issue. 64 million? Is there really that many people who are hotly anticipating this game? Most of the people who will end up buying this game are probably people who won't even know of its existence until they see it in the store anyway.

They push the opposing players all the time, but when they get pushed, they fall to the ground dramatically and scream "FOUL!"

"Just played a game for E3 with a "megaton" powerup."

It doesn't say that there will be a Megaton Announcement at E3, it implies that there will be a game at E3 with a "megaton power-up." This could mean just about anything. For all we know, it could be DLC for "Worms" that adds a new nuclear bomb weapon. If you end up disappointed, don't blame Geoff Keighley, blame your own reading comprehension skills.

Killzone 2 didn't leave my PS3 until i finally picked up Uncharted the other day for $30. I want to pick up Valkyria Chronicles also before it becomes an impossible to find cult hit that sells on ebay for $100 used.

I do think that Microsoft will need to release a new system fairly soon because the 360 was a short term console, but the 360 is doing just fine right now, so there is no reason to release a new system so soon. Remember, releasing a new system is a financial loss for quite some time, especially if you're going to release one to beat the PS3 graphically at a consumer friendly price. To release a new system now would just switch roles: a cheaper system (PS3 ironically), and a more expensive, ...

I think he was being sarcastic, saying how some people think ("game X is better than game Y because i can cheat at game X and that's more fun"). He also wrote "I haven't play COD since Killzone came out."

Did you really talk to all of that 90% of xbox owners that are white Americans, and they all said that?

Besides, even if that 90% thing were true, I think it would probably have to do more with the fact that the Xbox is the place for FPS games, which are most popular in America.

Killzone 2 failed because success has been defined as two steps above whatever Killzone 2 has accomplished (day one sales didn't compare to the largest entertainment product launch of all time = failure). Alternatively, failure may be defined as being whatever shortcomings Killzone 2 has (great gameplay but imperfect controls = epic failure).

Killzone 2 will make back development costs if it hasn't already, has proven that the PS3 is capable of amazing visuals, and has gone a lo...

I think it would be extremely more interesting to play as a Helghast soldier who is zealously loyal to Visari. To be hearing about how we deserve to take back what was stolen from us by the ISA. To hear how, despite our history, we have not only survived, but have risen up to become a superior race.

I do believe, though, that to think the Helghast are the good guys misses the point almost as much as thinking the ISA are the good guys. After all, they did come to power original...

Edgeofblade, you may be right, I haven't played Halo 3 to be able to compare them, but I think Killzone 2 COULD HAVE had a much deeper, more textured story than it did. If they had explored the back story of the Helghast, it would have made things much more interesting. Not to mention if they had bothered to make concessions to the new players who didn't know the story, it would have been easier to make sense of what was happening.

I dream of a game that leaves players wondering not only "who really are the bad guys?" but also wondering if the whole concept has any meaning.

I think the next step for video games to move into the realm of art is to make us start thinking about things in different ways, and the best place for games to do that is the area of wartime morality. Killzone 2 dipped its toe into those cloudy waters. Rico is the same character that we were cheering for in those 1980's acti...

I recently ate a jar of black olives. I was able to get through the whole thing in less than 10 minutes and found the flavor to be lacking complexity. If you eat green olives you should just stick with those.

I see your point, but comparing a "platinum hit" price to a new release price, and not including the price of even a memory card makes it incomplete. A more fair comparison would be 360 + Gears 2 + Harddrive vs. PS3 + KZ2. Still cheaper, but not as wide a difference as you're making it sound, especially if you add in XBL subscription for online play.
Besides, that's kinda like saying you'd rather buy a cheap car than an expensive one because you'll never refill the gas tank...

I was at the grocery store and saw a jar of black olives that had a really big olive in it. I thought, "It's not worth buying just for that one olive, but with that jar of green olives over there, I get a WHOLE JAR of olives. That's clearly the way to go."
That makes sense, right? The writer of this article should think so.
